It's Not Up To You

A shiver crawls up my spine
And tears my limbs.
I quiver to be warm
And to be full again.
The glacial moon meets the burning sun
But somewhere along the line
We ran out of land upon which to run.
This structure was never mine,
So I'll take yours until I'm warm again.

But I swore you would never see the day
When the wolves I kept at bay
Would come knocking on our door,
But I wore that mask just like a face.
Now you're left with the taste
Of cheap colored wine
And another white lie.

One day you'll open your eyes
Just to find that the outside
Is growing dimmer with the night.
It's up to me to decide
If the timing is right
Or if we should have left
When we still had the chance.
Now we're chained to the ground
And the hounds of the wood
Won't be chasing their dinner tonight.
Sit tight, sit tight!
Yeah, I might make it out alive,
But you're not so lucky this time.

But I swore you would never see the day
When the wolves I kept at bay
Would come knocking on our door,
But I wore that mask just like a face.
Now you're left with the taste
Of cheap colored wine
And another white lie.

You're not safe by my side!

I was your best kept secret.
You were my perfect mistake.
And now our only regret
Is that you never got to see me awake.
So shake out the curtains
And wake up the sun.
This must be done
If you ever want to breathe me in again.

I Want You

I want you to leave
I need you to leave
What chance do I have
To succeed
If you're still here
by the morning?
If you don't heed
my warning,
I'll want you to die
I'll need you to die
What chance do I have
To survive
If you're still here
By the morning?
If you don't heed
my warning,
I'll want you to leave
I'll need you to leave
What chance do I have
to succeed
If you're still here
by the morning?

On the Count of Three

I was a fireman, but I didn't go in
When the house was burning to the ground.
I was a young man, but I didn't feel it
When all of my best friends were out on the town.

I was a razor, but I didn't scrape her
When she held me too close to her wrist.
I was a bastard, a natural disaster
When I flooded her thoughts with my kiss.

I'm cautious when I'm conscious.
I'm fearless when I'm asleep,
But my dreams aren't what they used to be.

I was a pilot, but I couldn't fly yet
When my captain fastened up his belt.
I was a martyr, but I hadn't bothered
To sacrifice my life for a lie I didn't tell.

I'm cautious when I'm conscious.
I'm fearless when I'm asleep,
But my dreams aren't what they used to be.
