Abyssal Floor

Break from this once stable structure.
Earn the right to be sought out, not cast aside.
A tentative thought will carry you off,
So note to ignore the faintest cry.

Every letter is circled.
Every line rings a bell.
All the numbers are missing,
But when it's solved it will tell
Where the body lies,
And where your head resides.

You're biding all your time
In hoping to recall
The absence in your mind
That emptiness installed.
When was the merger signed?
Who made the curtain call?
Where are your thoughts confined?

We sat in eminence
While laughing at the cancer (at the cancer).
Here's to getting better.
We sat and reminisced
While knowing that the cancer (that the cancer)
Would erase us here and after.

Take the floor out from under.
Take my depleted mind.
See if some other home can be made out of stone
Aside from my heart and my eyes.

You're biding all your time
In hoping to recall
The absence in your mind
That emptiness installed.
When was the merger signed?
Who made the curtain call?
Where are your thoughts confined?

We sat in eminence
While laughing at the cancer (at the cancer).
Here's to getting better.
We sat and reminisced
While knowing that the cancer (that the cancer)
Would erase us here and after.

I've been fighting for too long.
I'm praying to prolong what impends around the bend.
We've had time, but now it's gone.
I'm praying to transcend, though I know you will descend.
